Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! We hope the children have had a restful and enjoyable Easter break and are ready to dive into an exciting Summer Term filled with engaging learning opportunities.

We begin the term with a fantastic unit on traditional tales, focusing on the intriguing story The Real Tale of the Three Little Pigs. Children will develop their reading and writing skills while exploring this story with a twist, before creating their own innovated traditional tales.

In Maths, we will be learning about 2D and 3D shapes, as well as fractions. Lessons will be practical, engaging and designed to build confidence and understanding. Morning Maths will include a variety of arithmetic and reasoning activities. There will also be a strong focus on learning the 2, 5 and 10 times tables—look out for fun activities in your child’s homework pack!

This term, PSHE will focus on community and living in the wider world. Children will take part in discussions, role play, debates and quizzes to explore these themes.

In RE, we will be learning about Pentecost. Children will explore how the gift of the Holy Spirit strengthens Christians to share the Church’s mission and spread the message of love. They will also reflect on how we can share in this mission.

Our Computing lessons will focus on Online Safety through Project Evolve, with a particular emphasis on privacy and security.

This term in Music, children will learn to play and create simple rhythms, keep a steady beat and understand how music is structured. They will also work together, listening to others and sharing ideas while playing instruments confidently.

In Art, children will explore textiles by foraging for natural materials to use in weaving and creating their own dyes.

Our Science topic is Plants. Children will learn how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants and investigate what plants need to survive and stay healthy. They will also learn that plants are living things that eventually die.

In History, we will study the Rochdale Pioneers and their impact on local industry. Children will learn about significant individuals and events in the local area, as well as their contributions to wider national and international achievements.

PE lessons take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit (black leggings or jogging bottoms, PE top, hoody/jumper/cardigan, and trainers).

Home reading books will be changed regularly. We ask that children read at least three times a week to support their comprehension skills. Additional tasks, including book reviews, will be set and children can earn house points for completed work.

Homework will be set every Thursday and is due the following Tuesday.

Completing homework is important in reinforcing classroom learning and developing independence. Your support in ensuring work is completed carefully and returned on time is greatly appreciated. Daily reading at home remains essential. Regular practice strengthens fluency, comprehension and confidence. Please sign your child’s reading record each time they read so we can monitor progress effectively.

As SATs will take place this summer term, it is particularly important that children feel confident in their independent reading skills. Consistent reading practice at home will greatly support this.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a successful term ahead.
